Happy Friday!

Well, not really. It looks as though I only work on weekends now ;) Yes, I've completely settled into my nearly unemployed status. I am working a total of 22.5 hours between Saturday & Sunday, though, so I'm not completely useless ya? It's been a nice week enjoying London, though.

Some things I wanted to note:

+ Someone actually said "Oh, blimey!" to me today. Twice.

+ I've learned that Stella Artois is "a wife beater's beer" here in Britain, but ordering a Budweiser gives you instant cool status. I still refuse to drink Budweiser, so looks like I'll be categorized as a woman who supports domestic violence.

+ Making anti-American comments & angering me can be erased from my brain if you chase me down the street apologizing & making a scene and sending me apologetic text messages and so on.

+ It's July 28th, how did that happen??? Looks like I have a month and a half left of putting off the real world. New goal: pretend I'm not a part of the real world, even when I am.

+ Reading "Tuesdays with Morrie" - some good quotes:
"The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves. And you have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn't work, don't buy it."
"Love is the only rational act."

+ I read an article called "Kids in America" in a London magazine about a British guy who went to an American frat party. He went on and on about how ridiculous American students are with their binge drinking and constant use of the word "dude" and constantly informing their friends of how many drinks they've consumed. He "blames" this behavior on the fact that we are held back from legally drinking alcohol until we're 21, saying that British kids don't participate in such foolish drunken behavior since they're more slowly introduced to alcohol and they're more inclined to participate in "social drinking"... really annoyed by this article, as it ends in a really condescending manner, suggesting that the British way is better. The funny thing is, I know it's not true - I've witnessed PLENTY of stupidly drunk British kids, and I have also been told that they go through the same process of a year or two of heavy drinking when they're first introduced to it. I do understand why America is looked at in such a humorous way sometimes, from abroad, but the condescending way some Britons talk/write about the country, the people, the culture, etc., is really pathetic and ignorant.

There. I feel better :)
