Cheerio!
How's everyone doing? I hope your weather is better than mine! It's been raining and cloudy most of the week since I arrived. Saw some sun yesterday! Wahoo!
Had quite an eventful day yesterday -- got a bank account! Had an interview at a temp agency! Had my first red tape experience with the bank later on in the day! And it's a holiday weekend here ('bank holiday' they call it) so I can't do anything about it until Tuesday morning. I also won't hear back from any jobs til Tuesday morning.... I make it sound as if I've applied to plenty of places! I haven't, really. Been busy getting lots of preliminary stuff taken care of first. Haven't thought much about a flat, either. My friend Karly said I can stay with her once my hostel stay is over on Tuesday (phew! no more snoring roomate!) Spent all day doing those errands with Meg and Casie and by 4:00 we were so exhausted from running around (literally, kept getting lost and ended up running late for everything) that we went to a pub by 4:00 and had a beer and some food. A guy named Wais came and introduced himself to us there and invited us to a place called Astor in Picadilly Circus... an FHM party, apparently. Got us on the guest list for free - would have been about $30 entrance otherwise.... so we went to that! Funny story....
So far, I've been noticing how reserved and quiet the people here are on the tube and pretty much everywhere else except pubs... So Meg, Casie and I had a few drinks and we were waiting for the tube... some English guys who looked a tad younger than us came down to the platform across the tracks from us and immediately yelled hi to us and invited us out with them... we thanked them for the invite but told them we had other plans and of course they continued harassing us - loudly, with beers in hand - across the tracks, yelling, while all the rest of the quiet, polite Brits watched. Their train approached and they yelled goodbye and got on it. They went straight to the window to wave to us some more and right before the tube pulled away, one of them dropped his pants and exposed his stark white English bum to us and plenty of other people standing around!!!!! Now I must say I don't get embarassed very easily but in this situation, for some reason, I already felt bad about making a bit of a spectacle of ourselves and our obvious American roots, but I think my face turned 19 shades of red as I ran to the corner and laughed histerically with the girls. Oh man.... Only my 3rd night in London!
So we arrive in Picadilly Circus and it looks a lot like Times Square. Tons of young people dressed really SMART (learning the slang, ya?) hanging around and drunk and going in and out of pubs and mostly clubs. We get to Astor, get our names checked off, and head inside and let me tell you this place is hott - the people are hott, their outfits are hott, its really big and romantically lit and way cooler than the attempted Euro clubs in Boston (AHEM, Rumour). We had a great time there. Danced to some Reggaeton and Salsa and hip hop in a room with about 5 other people, and spent a lot of time with our new friend Wais and some other new friends. Turns out that Wais was a bit over confident... dare I say cocky? But its not like any of us FANCIED him (haha I love it) anyways, and we saved $30. The bartender Romeo thought we were quite nice, as well. We only paid for one drink (thank goodness, it was about $14) and had quite a few more free of charge (except the shots Meg got us, thanks gal!). All in all, I'm sure you're sick of the details, but we had a lot of fun. What I've learned: I am 'dynamic' hahhahahahhaha.... Hilarious.
Anywhoooo hung out with Karly today, saw her place (so cute!) and had dinner with her and her roomies and a friend. A slower day than I hoped - I wanted to do more with the job search but truth be told I won't hear about anything until Tuesday anyways so there's always tomorrow. A new french friend named Shawn has invited us out to some other sort of party at a club tomorrow night.
Don't be a stranger, please email me and detail your life as much as I've been detailing mine. If you don't I'm going to feel awfully selfish. Also, if you're reading these I want to know about it! Comment me or else!
Love yas :-* talk soon!
